Negative Effects of Caffeine: True or False?

Author: Patrick Austin

Caffeine is prevalent in many beverages on the market, including coffee, tea, sodas, and energy drinks (of course). But some people worryare there negative effects of caffeine? This question has lead to many heated debates about the safety of caffeine consumption. Some people believe its dangerous to consume large amounts of caffeine on a regular basis, while others contend that caffeine is a harmless stimulant that helps them get through the day.

Researchers have found both positive and negative effects of caffeine. The one consensus they seem to agree upon is that caffeine in moderation is safe for the health of an average individual. Some researchers are even claiming that caffeine, in moderation (thats key), can help to prevent against some cancers, heart disease, headaches, etc.

On the flip side, advocates of a caffeine-free lifestyle suggest that the negative effects of caffeine include excessive nervousness, irritability, insomnia, dizziness, headaches, and heartburn.

But the key to avoiding negative effects of caffeine is moderation (as stated earlier). Just remember the old sayingtoo much of one thing is never good. The American Medical Association suggests a caffeine intake of no more than 300 milligrams a daythe equivalent of 3 cups of coffee. If youre consuming more than that and feel negative effects of caffeine, you should cut back. If youre consuming caffeine on a daily basis and feel no ill effects, then continue what youre doing. Just remember, moderation is key.
