Tweezing and Waxing for Easy Hair Removal

Author: Michael Russell

For most women, tweezing is the cheapest and most immediate method of hair removal. In tweezing, they use a pair of tweezers, which look like tiny metal forceps and which manually pull each hair out by the root. Tweezing is very useful for cleaning up the eyebrow area and removing stray hairs on any part of the face. It should not, however, be used for pulling out nose hairs to avoid dangerous infections. Though tweezing is quick and easy, it still can be quite painful. It is also difficult to remove hair in large areas of the body, such as the legs. The pulling motion can cause ingrown hairs, pitting, or scarring. You will be needing a mirror because some areas are difficult to tweeze by yourself. When shaping brows, one also has to be sure about the hairs one pulls out as one or two hairs can affect brow shape dramatically.

It is always important to clean Tweezers after each use by disinfecting the tips in alcohol. Never leave the tweezers just anywhere. You can protect the sharpness of your tweezers by storing them in a keep box or tube. Make sure you never drop your tweezers as this will dull the tips and misalign them.

Accurate tweezing has a few basic steps. First, try to brush the eyebrow hair in the direction of the hair growth. Don't apply creams or moisturizers-this can cause the tweezers to slip and miss the hair strand. Next, try to isolate the hair strand you are going to tweeze. It helps if you open your pores with a hot washcloth to make tweezing easier. Make sure you tweeze in the direction of hair growth. Pulling it in the opposite direction can be painful, so try to pull each hair one at a time and pull it gently and smoothly. Do not yank the hair out. Step back from your mirror and check your brows from time to time. Try to tweeze a few hairs from one brow first and then the other brow so they attain the same symmetry. It's always better to tweeze too little than too much.

Another traditional method of hair removal is waxing. Waxing has been around for quite some time and is one of the few temporary hair-removal methods that is still commonly performed by professionals and salons. In this method of hair removal, hot wax is applied to the skin and a strip of cloth is pressed into the waxed area. This strip is then quickly pulled away, taking the unwanted hairs with it.

Waxing can also be done at home and is a fast and inexpensive method for hair-free legs, face, bikini area and arms. However, some hairs may remain on the body as they can break off at or below the surface. Sometimes you might need to use a razor to ensure smooth and hair-free skin. It certainly can get quite messy and you will need a lot of practice before you can get waxing just right. It may also lead to skin infections and for some people, can be quite painful.
