Setting Goals - Find direction in your business!

Author: Nicole A. Walker

Setting Goals

Setting goals is like having a business plan. You need to outline where you're going and how you intend to get there. Setting your goals isn't always as cut and dry as it sounds! I tried to map quest this information once with no success. That being said here are some tips for setting goals:

1. Set EFFECTIVE GOALS:

Be Precise: if you set a precise goal, putting in dates, times and amounts so that achievement can be measured, then you know the exact goal to be achieved, and can take satisfaction from having completely achieved it.

Set Priorities: where you have several goals, give each a priority. This helps to avoid feeling overwhelmed by too many goals, and helps to direct your attention to the most important ones. (Set no more than 1-2 goals at a time and move on to new ones as you meet them!) Keep it simple. No need to reinvent the wheel here!

Write goals down to avoid confusion and give them more force.

2. Set REALISTIC GOALS

Set specific, measurable goals. If you achieve all conditions of a measurable goal, then you can be confident and comfortable in its achievement. If you consistently fail to meet a measurable goal, then you can adjust it or analyze the reason for failure and take appropriate action to improve skills.

3. Think it ThroughMake a Plan

When you are thinking about how to achieve goals. Asking the following questions can help you to focus on the sub-goals that lead to their achievement:
What skills do I need to achieve this?
What information and knowledge do I need?
What help, assistance, or collaboration do I need?
What resources do I need?
What can block progress?
Am I making any assumptions?
Is there a better way of doing things?

4. Follow ThroughTrack Your Success
Monitor your progress! Set dates to achieve your goals and keep moving forward!
