Breaking up the Sellers' Code: Sales & On-Line Stores

Author: Mike Zhmudikov

One should mention that many people who often go window-shopping are waiting for sales to come. Nevermind how great a sale is (-10%, -30% or more) this has an impact on the end customers. The sign Currently on sale affects the customers like a magical artifact. Furniture sales can even make people redecorate everything in their homes just because they have run across a piece of affordable modern furniture. Lets come deeper into the roots of placing different goods on sale.

Firstly, any goods can appear defective even if they are of the highest quality. The producer or reseller decides not to remove this good from a shelf or shop and to continue sale but for a price being low enough. Indeed, if there is no button in one place or a stitch went of somewhere where nobody sees it, say, for example, on an Armani jacket and the price went down accordingly why not to consider the purchase?

Secondly, there is a notion of Seasonal Sales. Mostly it concerns articles of clothing when the producers spread out clothes that are not to the current season and weather. For instance, a shop that sells fur coats when there is 80F outside. Many customers have never even thought about considering this as a bargain as they can buy these goods for the price that can be even 3 times lower. There is a great Russian saying: Prepare the sledge in summer.

Thirdly, one should mention the sales that are confined to the special events and occasions. Lets say Christmas Sale, Independence Day Sale, Thanksgiving Day Sale and others. Well, this is a great marketing step in order to attract visitors reminding them of the pleasant things that they want to hear at the same time showing that shop owners as well as shop-assistants are caring about the end customers and show their equal relation or we-group (psych.) in relation to the buyers. Decoration here places by no means the last role.

Nowadays when 60% of all purchases of different goods are made on-line in the USA it is not enough just to have a physical store even if it is a greengrocery, a butchers shop or a modern furniture store. There are always customers who are ready to make purchase online even if they want to supply themselves with foodstuffs. The time when pizza and fresh vegetables delivery was a luxury has come to non-existence. Lets not forget about disabled who are the same people who want to lead a normal life and order the same goods. Internet has provided them with wide doors as they got an opportunity to browse through the shelves of the virtual online store and choose any goods they want.

Summarizing this post one should restate the fact that special occasion sale is one of the best way to promote ones business.
